Earlier this year I had the opportunity to visit a city synonymous with anything and everything hip hop in this country. Home to some influential voices not only in their specific sub-genre but throughout the rap community as a whole while maintaining complete respect to and from Houston. With names like Bun B, Chamillionaire, DJ Screw, Mike Jones(who?), Pimp C(RIP), Slim Thug, UGK & Trae Tha Truth to name a few being your cities torch bearers to the rap game coming up as an original is no small task for any who try.

While in town, I got to meet some real, and by real I mean REAL; folks who showed nothing but love to a bearded tatted vato from the valley, so it was all good vibes from the jump. While discussing music and conversing on how our paths all came to cross at that particular moment our host for the day happened to have some local artists music playing, and naturally all involved in the conversation are musically inclined we were are interested as to what, more so who was coming through the speakers. It was then we were introduced to the artist I want to introduce to you out in the BOD Blogosphere.

Kush O’ Keefe, Houston Texas’s hidden production gold mine is making his mark in the hip hop scene with booming 808’s slathered in southern style delivery, and lryicism. With a slight southern draw, and laid back vocal vibe Kushy is all southern trap, and amongst a large class of top notch producers in the north east of Texas a list that includes: Jay Oliver, Carlos Botello, and Sub Chronix, Kushy is able to draw from the slowed Texas style hip hop and infuse an ATL style trap sound that bangs.

With his latest release ‘Drugs Drugs & More Drugs’ Kushy enlisted the work of other production giants in Jahlil Beats, Knife Beats, and for the rest of the tracks the production credits fall on Kush himself. Giving a first time listener or long time supporter a larger scope of what he can do behind the boards.

While no matter what part of the country you live in as an artist “making” it is never easy, even assuming most people in the industry have slightly different views on what it means to reach said goal. I like to see the unheard get heard and where they deserve to be, and with Kush making the moves for the city of Houston his skills have the making for something great and you shouldn’t miss out on it.
