As one of the four founding members of the Toronto based XO crew, Omar Shakir is a novelty of sorts. He understands the aestetics of music such as beats, melody, and flow while structuring it in a way that makes you take it seriously. I can definitely hear the ATL based trap influence in the production with a hint of the spacey ethereal sound of Toronto thats been popular recently. Every track on the EP has boots in the title and that is in reference to his love for fashion and his origins as a stylist. It seems fair to say that Shakir is a renaissance man and Ode To Thy Boots is evidence of that. My favorite track is “Dirty Boots” which sounds like something IĀ could see A$AP Ferg ripping on a remix. I also like the slow pimp bop of “Big Boots”. If you want to hear something new, fun, and turnt I would recommend this EP for sure.
