It’s rare to see a rapper that embodies the rawness of New York City in so many ways. Over the years we’ve witnessed the trill and trap musings of the A$AP Mob, the nostalgic sound of Joey Bada$$, and the ghetto wildness that is Bobby Shmurda. All artist with their own sound but none that I can say is definitively NY. $ha Hef changed all of that. I became familiar with him through listening to New Jersey rappers, Da$h and RetcH, who are also affiliated with the A$AP Mob. Hunnit Round Hef his other moniker invokes the spirit of Kool G. Rap from his supremely gangsta lyrics to his ear catching lisp. Hef spits with the ferocity of a battle rapper but you can tell that each bar is carefully crafted. The production on “Still Sippin” from L.S XXXX is menacing and sounds like the backdrop for the newest Hannibal movie. It also needs to be said that $ha Hef isn’t corny and makes NY look hard again. From the Polo to the beads to the Huaraches Hef is unapologetically NY and is exactly what the city needs. At the end of the video a dedication to the young visionary, A$AP Yams can be seen and appreciated. Check him out on Twitter @OGShaHef and his latest mixtape, Mafioso Psalms, can be found on Datpiff.com Still Sippin Juug. Juheard.
